The theme for this year’s #WomeninScience day is “Women and Girls in Science Leadership, a New Era for Sustainability” and the sub – theme is “Think Science. Think Peace” which focuses on recognising the role of women and girls in science as agents of change, including in view of accelerating progress towards the achievement of SDGs 16 and 17.
Over the past years, the world’s understanding of climate change has improved thanks to science, technology, and the commitment of climate scientists and so there is the need to get more women to work in these fields.
This year’s sub-theme resonates with me ; being a woman in #STEM working in programme management in the Peace and Security sector over the past year. There is a nexus between climate change and peace and security and climate change invariably affects women and children (economically, socially, etc). Science has role to play in ensuring peace as this year’s sub-theme focuses on – “Think Science. Think Peace ” #SDG16 #SDG17
So here is to all the amazing women and girls in Science working in diverse fields : Keep contributing to the attainment of the SDGs and making the world a better place!
Ps. Please read the stories, and we hope our stories inspire young girls to pursue #STEM
