SheDreams Africa collaborated with the Girls Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Tema West to commemorate this year’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science through a month long series of activities.
Junior High School Edition
There was an online engagement for girls in 21 Junior High Schools in the Municipality. Students researched on the theme: “Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Water Unites Us. Ten selected girls made presentations on the theme.
The day was also set aside to recognize the role women and girls play in STEM. Miss Fareeda Brobbey (Pharmacist & Entrepreneur), Miss Theresa Anafi (Environmentalist and Co – founder of SheDreams Africa), Miss Yacoba Otoo (GES, Tema West) and Miss Beatrice Baiden (Gender, Peace and Security Expert) also shared pieces of advice for the Girls.
Primary School and KG Edition
An open writing and drawing competition on how negative practices affects our water bodies was also held for all Primary and KG students in the Municipality. Shortlisted entries were further reviewed and winners were selected for categories – Upper Primary, Lower Primary and Kindergarten.
Presentation of Prizes and Certificates
The Girls in STEM activities was climaxed with an awards ceremony and a mentoring session to encourage girls to pursue STEM.
Participating schools were presented with certificates. Winners of the competition were presented with prizes and SheDreams Africa Branded Books and the Girls Education Officer for the Municipality was presented with a citation for all the hard work.
