Twumasiwaa is a chemist by training and a mining industry insider by trade; and it’s that unusual combination that shapes how she shows up for the girls SheDreams Africa serves. With 14 years in Ghana’s gold and small-scale mining sector, she has spent her career in spaces where women are still the exception rather than the rule: from running the assaying and export teams at a gold buying company, to her current role as Director at Prestige Metals Logistics Ghana Limited in Accra.
She holds an MSc in Engineering and Management from Coventry University and a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast, and alongside her technical work she has built deep expertise in environmental management. She qualified as an IEMA Practitioner Member in 2021 and holds a certificate in environmental management from the Institute of Environmental Assessment.
Since 2018, Twumasiwaa has brought that same firsthand industry experience into her work with SheDreams Africa, mentoring young girls toward careers in male-dominated fields like hers and speaking at STEM and girls’ empowerment events. She also channels her creative side as the organization’s group photographer, and runs Twumygraphy, her own photography venture promoting positive body image.
For the girls she mentors, Twumasiwaa is living proof that a young woman from Ghana can walk into a gold lab, a boardroom, or a mine site, and belong there.
